Back in August when we were in Australia on the farm, I let the kids do what all farm kids get to do…. Play with Fire!
Going Back to the Farm
Since the kids were born we’ve taken them back to see the farm and my parents. Since we moved to America it has been less, obviously. It’s a long way and it’s a lot of money. I try to take the kids every other summer so they get to see family but don’t miss out on summers either. Every time …
Australian Flora Abound
On the final farm walk this trip I took some pics of some of the flora growing on the farm. Over the years it has regenerated all over the property. It wasn’t really there when I was a kid. It looks so pretty. The Wattle:
Finding the Fun in Farmwork
Grand Master D especially but Miss Gremlin too, have been pestering me to let them split logs. I have avoided it because it can be dangerous, however at Uncle Glenn’s all the boys went out and felled a tree, cut it up and brought it back. Then the kids had the task of splitting all the wood for the fire …
Shooting the S#!^ out of Stuff is a Bit Fun…

Uncle Glenn Rocks…….
Uncle Glenn hasn’t really spent much time with the kids over their lives. We’ve always lived far apart. Today, however, he gained legendary status in the eyes of Grand Master D and Miss Gremlin…. After the BBQ he took them out in the back block and taught them how to drive. They won’t forget this trip any time soon 🙂 …
Wildlife Mishap
Today we went out to the place where Dad’s beloved little dog has made a new home. She was all alone too much here on the farm and with Ma being allergic, circumstances made life hard for both Ma and Whisper. So it was decided that Whisper would go to another place. An ad was answered in the local paper …
And Then They Built a Fire
There comes a time in every kids life that they need to learn to build a fire. For Grand Master D and Miss Gremlin today was that day. Armed with some newspaper and a box of matches, Â they found a stump requiring burning and set to work. Ma showed them how to set it alight.
An Adventure in Pictures
Give the kids some freedom and they are good to run wild over the farm…They’re at the age now that they can just explore. No supervision required
Living on a Farm is Weird and Fun and Grounding and Realistic and Awesome for Kids
From the time I was 6 we lived on acreage. The first place was only 10 acres but we had an enormous hay shed and it was the best fun to make hay cubbies with the bales. We had an old horse named Jim, which we got with the place. He was an old turd! He was an ex pacer …
