Happy ‘Straya Day Peeps… Drink Up.

Happy Australia Day

It’s here! The day we wait for every year to celebrate our Great Southern Land. The 26th January….Our Official Day, and the unofficial last day of summer…. the long weekend to end the long summer break. The day we all get outside and get ourselves painted in Aussie colours, drink til we fall down, play beach cricket, watch the real cricket on tv, BBQ some snags on the barby… That’s sausages, NOT Shrimp, we eat prawns people, prawns…..Damn you Paul Hogan….

We party hard, we’re proud of our country, we’re no different to any other country.

Australia Day is important to honour:

It is the day we celebrate the arrival of the First Fleet , Commanded by Captain Arthur Phillip from England in 1788, to start a new colony, with free men and convicts working side by side. The Birth of a new Nation.

On Australia Day there are citizenship ceremonies all over the country to welcome all newly naturalised citizens. It’s a very special day,  The Order of Australia is given to people who have given great service to our country and many large public celebrations go on all over.

Here for us, in American, we celebrate it, by quietly having a few beers and maybe a pie or a sausage roll…. And the kids and I will probably make some Anzac biscuits 🙂
