Sitting quietly typing away, continuing the search for health insurance this morning, and still in my pj’s, I heard a huge explosion and felt the building move like the subway was going underneath. Then friends started saying the same thing online and so I took to the little blue bird to discover what I could … I quickly found that there was an explosion in East Harlem and went outside to look.
I posted a picture and then the chaos ensued.
As the sirens screamed and the helicopters arrived and the world media scrambled to discover the news, I was contacted by NBC, CBS, CNN, Wall St Journal, Brazil TV, Metro, Danish News, an Irish news channel and Huffpost UK to see what I knew. Phew!
The funniest part is the image that half of twitter is retweeting and crediting to @amotherlife, isn’t even mine! Which I’ve mentioned and then given my images.
Twitter totally exploded, then my phone started. I’ve done 4 live to air interviews and 3 print interviews…As expected the coverage is ongoing.
We were entirely safe, being 5 avenue blocks west but we sure heard and felt the blast and had a pretty good view of the action.
Thanks to all those who reached out to check on us.
At this stage they suspect a gas explosion, and 2 people are dead. It’s a tragic accident. You just never know when your number is up.
I’ll keep you updated when more is known.

Oh wow! I would have been terrified! I’m so glad your family is safe. And so sad for those who weren’t as lucky. 🙁 Keep us posted.

So scary, I am glad that you are safe and sound. 😉
That’s a little crazy. I didn’t hear about it until the evening news, and while it’s horrible & tragic I’m surprised at how few people were injured or killed given two buildings collapsed. It’s a crazy world out there.
