We are all devastated by the typhoon in the Philippines. So much destruction, so many people in need of so much. These types of events are always terrible but when they happen in areas of the world where the population is already less fortunate it becomes an enormous problem. Remember Haiti?
Today I found out that this little cherub…. My niece, Stevie Smith, decided that she, along with some like minded friends, were going to lend a hand. They have no specific training, no particular skill sets…. They are a group of 20 year olds with great big hearts! She recently connected with this humanitarian aid group. At her age I was just thinking of the next party and big night out!
This is so wonderful… in a world where teens are running around shooting each other, and knocking random strangers out for fun, it’s very refreshing to see young people caring for others and taking on the big challenges. I’m worried for her and the things she’ll she. You don’t go to an event like that and not come back changed, but I still believe it’s a worthwhile trip and I know Stevie has the compassion, work ethic and practical skills to be a useful member of a foreign aid team.
I’m so very proud Stevie B, you’re a credit to your family and your generation… never stop surprising me. I love you! Be safe and do good!
Friends, please read the newspaper article in today’s paper in my hometown.
And if you feel inclined to send aid here are some links to donate to help the relief effort.

That’s wonderful! Young people get a bad rap, but this generation is doing more volunteer work than any generation before. Tell your niece thank you from me!
Amazing. I’m so proud of Stevie and her friends. It is great to know there are young people who are focused on making a difference and offering help.

I’m so very proud. She’s a great kid. I love her. I wish I wasn’t so far away….
We should all be proud. There are young people like this out there … we just put so much emphasis on the ones doing harm, that we don’t give them their due. The truth is, the good they do is all the due they need!
Well done to your niece! It’s awful the damage that has occurred, but good to read this story.
This is great… Thank you for sharing! It’s true, this will have a huge impact on her! But wow what a priceless gift!
