A Devastating Tyhpoon and A Very Cool Young Lady

We are all devastated by the typhoon in the Philippines. So much destruction, so many people in need of so much. These types of events are always terrible but when they happen in areas of the world where the population is already less fortunate it becomes an enormous problem. Remember Haiti?

Today I found out that this little cherub…. StevieMy niece, Stevie Smith, decided that she, along with some like minded friends, were going to lend a hand. They have no specific training, no particular skill sets…. They are a group of 20 year olds with great big hearts! She recently connected with this humanitarian aid group. At her age I was just thinking of the next party and big night out!

This is so wonderful… in a world where teens are running around shooting each other, and knocking random strangers out for fun, it’s very refreshing to see young people caring for others and taking on the big challenges. I’m worried for her and the things she’ll she. You don’t go to an event like that and not come back changed, but I still believe it’s a worthwhile trip and I know Stevie has the compassion, work ethic and practical skills to be a useful member of a foreign aid team.

I’m so very proud Stevie B, you’re a credit to your family and your generation… never stop surprising me. I love you! Be safe and do good!

Friends, please read the newspaper article in today’s paper in my hometown.

  1. This is excellent, Molley! What an incredible young woman and thank God there are people like her out there. Thank you for the links. I am embarrassed to say that I hadn’t donated until I read your post here.

  2. As a Filipino who experienced the wrath of typhoon Haiyan, I am very thankful for wonderful people like your niece. Thankfully, my family are all okay but it is unfortunate that many of my countrymen are not. Some areas in our region are so devastated that it hurts to watch the news everyday and we are doing what we can to help out. So please extend my heartfelt thanks to Stevie.

  3. In this age of bullying, it’s always nice to hear that there are still good people out there. This post hits close to home as I have family affected by the typhoon. (They’re ok)
