When you buy appliances, you have to really commit to using them. I have so many gadgets and over the years I’ve used them a lot.
When we left Australia I had to leave everything. There was no point bringing anything electrical because the power is different. While America runs on Dunkin’, I mean 110volts, which if you put a knife in the socket you’d probably live, we Aussies run on 240volts. Now that shit will kill you right dead if you stick a knife in the toaster,………… I’ve heard.
But don’t fear, we invented this little thing called a power switch on our electrical outlets ….so you don’t have live electricity coursing through the place every 8-10 feet.
Genius right? We’re thinkers…… don’t let the easy going, heavy drinking reputation fool ya.
Anyway I digress…. So when we got here I had to replace all of the appliances I just couldn’t live without. You know juicer, sandwich maker, toaster, electric kettle, bread maker, pie maker, blender, food processor, mixer…. The list goes on and on. So in the last 7 years I have accumulated a large amount of shit! But now I come to discover, I actually don’t use them all that often anymore.
Having gone Paleo means I no longer make nice warm crusty bread, or hot toasty sandwiches with delicious fillings. Occasionally I make pies still for the children, but for me pastry is out, therefore no more chicken pies :(.
The wheatgrass juicer, well that was a fad thing. Wheatgrass juice tastes like ass, looks like cow vomit and although they rave about the benefits….. There’s no wheat in the paleo diet… bah bowwww.
So here I am in my Manhatttan apartment, with limited space and cupboards full of electrical shit I’m never gonna use again in my life. I’m sick of trying to fit everything in and jiggling and wiggling and manoeuvring stuff just to get a casserole dish out.
It’s time to just let it go.
But the next dilemma is this, do I just chuck it out? Do I try to clean it up and sell it on amazon, knowing that whomever buys it will love it but I might have to pay more to ship the shit than what I’m making…… OR do I see if any or my friends wants any of it? Are they going through the fads I’ve already been through, and can I easily
dump pass these appliances on, which are still in excellent condition, to a new kitchen, one where the family will get to enjoy fresh, homemade crusty warm bread or beautifully fresh squeezed wheat grass. (Ok, sorry that was the longest sentence ever, take a breath… ok continue)
I have no idea… but I will clean them up and make a decision then.
If you want any of these…. let me know.. You gotta come get it or pay your own shipping though…. Otherwise I could put it in the Harlem local………..AKA put it on the street with a please take sign on it. That shit’ll be gone in 3.5 minutes….
I LOVE this post! Between the off switches, which just like the two flush NEED to be incorporated in the US, the piles of shit in the cupboards falling out on the floor or spilling on to my head have got to go here too. I have the juicer, slicer and panini maker… That I never use. Lucky for me I have Craig’s list and a safe place to exchange (my bros business) still is it worth the trouble for 10-20 bucks?
I’m loving the Harlem Local. And really, you think it will take 3-5 whole minutes? On TV it looks like 35 seconds!
NO CHICKEN PIES??? That’s a world not worth living in.
Oh I know but I’d rather not have the pounds, so its a trade off
Would love these but don’t have room for them either!
We sold the juicer on craigslist.. So good.
We have way too many damn appliances. Luckily, our kitchen has a lot of cabinet space, so everything isn’t sitting on the counters. It’s my workout. Love this, though!
