I had all big plans of writing about this church that happens to be in the ‘hood. I first saw what was going on on the yahoo group I’m a member of, I watched with interest as people bitched and moaned, with little real interest, then it started to get more serious and I read what was really happening and I was appalled. That’s not the behaviour of a Christian church. Jesus preached love and tolerance. I think they took a wrong turn not unlike Westboro Baptist.
It caught some media attention and then a young lady went and asked for her stoning! Gutsy move. The clergyman had no idea how to respond. It was almost comical if it wasn’t so awful.
So I thought it would be a good topic to cover, seeing as I’m local and I wanted to see the sign for myself. So on Saturday I took my little self on a walking tour to the sign. Passing so many beautiful buildings, brownstones, churches and architecturally stunning displays. Harlem really is a spectacular area.
When I got there, I found this.
Police on scene… Hmm why? We’re they guarding the church, I wondered? Was the situation that out of hand? As thoughts went through my mind, I got a closer look.
Vandalism! The sign was blank, the words of hate and discrimination were gone and in it’s place was black graffiti.
Someone paid them a visit under the cover of darkness. And while I’ll never condone crime or vandalism, I did give the perp a mental high five and a fuck u to the Atlah Church… intolerant fuckers. I hope they’ve learned their lesson, that our community will not tolerate their hate speech or discrimination. It’s an ever changing community, with growing pains for sure but generally speaking everyone gets along without too much trouble.
