Watching the Inauguration as a Foreigner

National Mall Inauguration Day 2013

As I sit here watching the second Inauguration of Barack Obama as President of The United States…. or POTUS* as he’s affectionately known, I wonder what he’ll be able to achieve this term. Last term didn’t bear as much fruit as promised.

Sunday’s Official Inauguration

Knowing that it’s his last chance to make a difference, he can go big or go home. Either way he’ll go down in history. He is the first Black President after all. I hope he goes big and makes key issues like gun control and health care his mandate and uses as many of those executive orders that he can to help this great country take care of it’s own. He’s got ’em , he should use ’em.

America has some big problems, it’s a country in social crisis. So many homeless people, mentally ill people, issues of public safety and moral issues….We need a strong leader, one who can lead the country back to prosperity.

I hope he can convince the congress, who are partly funded by the crazies, to move forward  for the benefit of the entire country and not just the selected few who make the most noise.

It must be very difficult at times. He’s aged so much in these last 4 years. His life is changed forever. His family must have their challenges, living a complete public life, with a percentage of the country hating on you. It must be a strain.

The constant harassment by those who insist he’s not legally holding office. The recent campaign by those crazies we won’t mention or promote here, and their nasty, vitriolic ad campaign must take their toll.

The First Family

The First Family

The First Family carry it off very well though. The FLOTUS* is doing a great job teaching the girls grace and poise. It’s a wonderful opportunity for them. They will have a head start many only dream of. They may be too young to realise it but those around them are sure to guide them through.

It’s lovely to see Grandma has embraced the office and it’s duties, to be with her grand daughters and be part of the show.

Regardless of politics, it was quite nice to watch the pageantry, which is the closest thing to Royalty America will ever know. It came off without a hitch, although Obama stumbled on his swearing in. The entertainment was fitting and the Vice President looked very official 🙂

I’m a sucker for a good parade and ceremony…..and this one sure satisfied.

Tomorrow he has to roll up his sleeves and get shit done….

*POTUS-All Presidents have this as their moniker..President of The United States

  1. I completely forgot to watch. But I did see a clip last night and couldn’t believe how gray he’d gotten in just a couple months. It’s amazing how fast that job ages you.

  2. Being a political junkie I love the whole inauguration. I love this post. Every point you made was valid and this is the closest thing we get to royalty…at least until Kim Kardashian gets married…again. 🙂
