The Next Step on my Road to Freedom

Laundry has been part of my life since I was 14, before that my mum did it. But with growing up comes learning to look after yourself. She was right. Every child needs to learn to do it.

ID-100256911It’s come to that time for Grand Master D. He wear clothes…. LOTS of clothes. He has twice the pile as any other family member. I’ve been complaining about it for a while.

A few weeks ago he took over the job. I bought him a hamper so he can take care of it himself. He’s 14.

He’s come unstuck once though 🙂 I have reminded him to do his laundry a couple of times and he’s like yep I got it but does nothing about it so last week he dug out a tshirt I hadn’t seen in a long time. I commented on it and he said “Yeah I ran out of clothes” We laughed and he learned that waiting to do laundry for 2 1/2 weeks is too long. Sometimes you gotta learn by making the mistake yourself, no matter how many times mum reminds you.

Now Miss Gremlin wants to do her own too. She has always wanted to do what he does but earlier.
I’m not gonna stop her. But I’m also not going to make her if she drops the ball. She’s 11. There’s time. She will learn to do it properly.

But it’s awesome that they are happy to start learning how to look after themselves.

Proper meal cooking is next.

My island vacation is getting closer 😉

  1. That is really, REALLY awesome! I am so impressed. Miles is still too little, but Max? I don’t think I could get him to do it. I can barely get him to load the dishwasher. Pathetic, right? I’m working on it. They need to learn how to do it though. So good on you, lady!
