When POTUS Comes to Town

When POTUS comes to town everyone freaks out.
It’s UN week here in New York and if you live here all that means is there are troops at every subway to make you feel uneasy and half of the east side is road blocked. Getting around the city is a nightmare and the already snarled traffic becomes more like a fifth avenue parking lot. The most expensive lot in the city! But with POTUS’ arrival also comes the glory….all the people gathering to catch a glimpse of good old 44.
Yesterday afternoon as Marine One made its way to the north meadow of Central Park, the preferred landing site apparently, helicopters buzzed overhead here in Harlem like bees to a honey pot. From our terrace we could see two, one hovering close to the landing site to secure the airspace I imagine, and the other one circling the nearby buildings looking for any kind of suspicious activity. You just never know who has sinister plans and how they might choose to execute them. Better safe than sorry, right?

New York is a crazy place, so often the epicenter of so much, you forget when you live here how exciting the place can be… I remember walking through Central Park years ago pushing Miss Gremlin  in the stroller after a play date get together and saw George W. Bush land in the same space. It was a little freaky as I didn’t know what was happening but the troops and police everywhere alerted me to something important. I discovered later what I’d walked through.

Tonight My Lord Dr King is going to a dinner with the Australian Prime Minister, who happens to be an old school friend of one of our team. It’s such a small world but still exciting for a girl from the bush.
