The Polar Vortex – Wait, the WHAT?

Today is so cold that the chance of your eyeballs actually freezing if you don’t blink fast is a real possibility. The warnings were set last night on the news, don’t go out unless you have to, don’t expose any skin. Frostbite can happen in 15 minutes YO! Now that’s fucking cold.

Here in New York, we’re used to some frigid temps but this Polar Vortex, that has our blood freezing in our veins, is bringing record temps! The likes we’ve not seen in our area since 1996. Colder than Siberia! I’ve never seen them personally.

Luckily we are warm and safe at home and have the necessary equipment to cope with a 10 minute walk to school outside, so it’s no biggy, except it is. It’s a huge deal. Getting going this morning was tough, prying the babes from their feather encased cocoons was a task not for the weak. My ‘mean mommy’ meter was at 10 really fast, especially as I slept in too…. but they made it, they left looking like marshmallow children, with arms outstretched and faces covered but we braved this polar vortex.

Here’s how they looked.

The current temperatures are just crazy. I have to check in celcius because while I understand fahrenheit, my brain really gets how bad it is in celcius. It’s just what I grew up with.cold c cold fIsn’t that just crazy? Very glad not to be an animal today…

Hope you’re warm and cozy where you are.

  1. I’m a wuss. Anything below 60 is cold to me most of the time. I grew in the San Francisco Bay Area and moved to Vegas 7-ish years ago. No way in hell could you get me to move east. My husband was born and raised in Philly and has suggested moving there. Uh, no. Actually, make that HELL NO. Sorry, but this gal has no interest in dealing with frigid temps where my hands could become frostbitten that fast.

  2. Waiting at the bus stop this morning was brutal. I’m already dreading the walk and wait when going home. I swear Mother Nature is giving us a warning…

  3. A bit of envy from me. The colder the better, I say. If it’s any sympathy, I had a jumper on for the morning walk thanks to a fresh south-easterly.

    Stay warm!
