I Might be Done with Society. How do you even go off the grid anyway?

Every day it’s something else, gun violence, stabbings, babies found in dumpsters, teens killing their children with abuse, kidnappings, gang rapes, cops bashing people, shooting innocents, teachers having sex with students.Sports stars being assholes.

Our rights being whittled away, reproductive rights, fighting for equality, fighting about the minimum wage, health care, people who die because they can’t afford health care. Going bankrupt and becoming homeless because of health care.

Massive, uncontrollable national debt, countries going bankrupt being propped up by other countries.

Wars finally ending only to have another antagonist provoke the giant American war machine because war makes money.

It’s too much!

It’s really sad to see that we’re on a slippery slope and things are getting worse and will be worse in my lifetime. I worry for my children and the future generations.

Everyone’s on pills, all the kids are nuts because of the pressure placed on them to attain goals they’re not ready for. Everything is rushed and immediate and there is no thought of consequences… Just do it.

We’re eating chemicals and penalising farmers for growing fresh, local, chemical free raw food.

I dream of a Utopia where there are self sustaining gardens and we all grow food and the homeless have permanent shelter and no child goes hungry or dies from a water borne disease, where we think of others and look at their situation before we judge, where we ask questions first and shoot last.

  • Where police and politicians are entirely trustworthy and are only there to serve and protect and work for all the people’s best interests and not lining their own pockets.
  • Where prisoners have to work a farm or grow food or make textiles or some other productive collective service to society during their incarceration, where children have an abundance of free food and healthcare and fresh air and exercise and safe places to play.
  • Where the cures for cancer are allowed to be used, where homeopathy and naturopathy go hand in hand with the latest scientific breakthroughs and our goal is to cure the ill, not profit from the illness.
  • Where people with mental disorders are treated and addiction is understood.
  • Where our returning soldiers are revered and treated for their medical problems without financial worry.
  • Where the elderly are treasured and learned from, not stuck in nursing homes, forgotten, waiting to die.

Am I really asking for unicorn farts here? Surely we can get to a better place.

And then I wake up and realise it’s an impossible task…

Or maybe we need the aliens to come so we can work as a team of humans against the invaders instead of fighting each other over petty things.

Yes, that’s the answer, it’s time for the Aliens to invade. (See what happens when I have too much time to think?)

Creativity is the key.

  1. I feel and believe in the same thing as you do. My husband swears up and down all the problems would go away if we would just get rid of money. He is utterly convinced money is the root of everything that’s wrong with humanity.

  2. I know that some of these problems could be solved if families took responsibility for their kids and taught them right from wrong at an early age. Plus follow through with appropriate punishments when they do dumb things.

Then the whole economy is probably not helping the situation either. There are more poor people and they can’t figure out how to make ends meet when rent, gas, groceries, and everything keeps going up but wages are staying stagnant. Which means people are going out onto the street to find other ways to make money. I dunno if this country can be saved but hopefully America can figure it out before people start a war on the home front.

    I really hope I made sense. 😉

  3. I have a different take. I only agree with half of your headline. Society doesn\\\’t have any bigger problem than it had 25, 75, or 175 years ago. But getting off the grid? Now we\\\’re talking. All the negative things going on have always been going on even in the best of times. What\\\’s changed is that we now have the press and all forms of media broadcasting it on to our phones, TV, radio and computers every second of every minute of every hour of every day of every year. And out of the million positive things going on everyday around the globe, guess which ones gets pumped through our channels to spook our brains into believing that the whole world has gone bonkers? Check the stats. Almost all crime is down from what it was in the 70\\\’s, 80\\\’s and 90\\\’s.. and it\\\’s been going down for years now. Now see if that applies to the stats from wars, violence, and everything else. I mean.. check the actual research showing the numbers.

  4. I get where you are coming from. For what it is worth, I simply no longer watch the news. Maybe ignorance is bliss but I find that I am a little more calm and have the energy to be optimistic for my kids and the kids I work with when I am just focused on being the change in the world that I want to see.

  5. I’m so with you on this Molley. It’s hard watching the news; local AND national. I tend to watch the political stuff on cable news shows, but so often they’re covering the horrible mass shooting, or the horrible terrorist bombing, or the horrible plane crash. It’s all too much.
