Franken Toe- Not a Musical

So today was the day, the final day, getting these stitches out of my foot. No more surgical shoe, no more uncomfortable bandage, back to normal. I booked my appointment for 9am because I knew that I’d just want this over with by the time 14 days was up and yes, I wanted it over with. This week has been the longest week ever. Trying to walk more and get better, I inadvertently made my foot swell and the bandage became tight and almost unbearable. Several times I’ve wanted to just rip it off. I got as close as unwinding it one turn around my foot and rewinding it a little looser but that’s it because I’m a good patient. Yeah right. The nurse took me in and x-rayed so we can see how it all healed. I have to say I was a little nervous about my toe ring because last time she made me take it off, this time it was firmly ensconced under all the bandages. What if it blew my foot up? That would be rather annoying right? Ok whatever, I had a freak out moment, work with me. photo 4 photo 3After he came in and checked out the x-ray, he unwrapped the foot for a good look at the result. It was a relief to get the bandage off. He made a joke about my toe ring being an issue but I didn’t get it. We made small talk while he tugged away at the stitches, I may have mentioned that I removed the King’s vasectomy stitches… He  looked at me and said “I don’t even know what to say to that and I’m not usually stuck for words” We laughed and laughed. There’s noting better than putting your Dr at ease while they’re working on you. I think they should enjoy their work 😉 Literally 5 minutes later I was all done and putting a shoe on for the first time in 2 weeks. I couldn’t get it on properly and half way home ended up replacing it with the boot for the rest of the way home. This will be my footwear for the next week or so. photo 1

All in all, I’m pretty happy with the procedure and result, once the rest of the swelling goes down.

Yay healthcare, yay getting it finally fixed, even though right now it feels like a Far Side boneless chicken and wobbles in a weird way. This too shall pass as they say.

Here’s a gallery to peruse of the unveiling and the end result for all you ghouls 😉

Looking forward to actual shoes very soon.
