The King is away, he’s in Spain for business for a week. This means life gets a little easier around here.(ahem) I don’t have to make awesome dinners… the kids are happy with quick easy vegie free fare or even take out! Bonus.
I get the remote to myself and can watch all the cop dramas and history channel I want or even sappy movies. Bonus.
I get more sleep because I go to bed earlier and don’t have to be available for grown up play. Bonus.
I can stay in bed and check my email, and be noisy and have the bed made by 7am. B o n u s.
All these things are things that I think I need…. but then I can’t sleep because he’s not beside me and I keep waiting for him to finally come upstairs.
I watch exactly the same things on tv as if he was still in control of the remote.
I can’t get moving in the mornings because I didn’t get straight up and life is just a little lonelier because he’s not around…
We think we want space and need time away until we have it and then we realise that being together is so much better.
I will get that good night sleep thursday because I’ll be so exhausted from not sleeping that I’ll finally pass out. I will watch the history channel just because I can but probably go back to Frasier and Big Bang Theory. And I will get time off from cooking, although I’ll probably make something awesome just cos the kids love it.
Whoever decided ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder’ was not kidding.

TRUTH. The only benefits to my husband going away are fewer dishes and laundry to wash. Oh, and I can make frittata for dinner. But that’s it.
So very true!! My hubby travels frequently for work. All the benefits you have listed are completely accurate. But, I miss the conversation and I miss him sleeping next to me. Even though I should be used to him traveling because he does it so much, I can never sleep the first night he is gone. Second night it a maybe and by the third I crash because I am exhausted!
I love when my hubby travels because I can hog the whole bed if I want to. 🙂
Ohhh yes! I hear you. Before my son, I’d love my time alone with the TV remote… now it’s sucks having to do it all alone. Those were the days…
