10 Reasons We Should Be Selfish for a Change

Every day I look around, read articles, talk to friends, live it…. and I find that we women really don’t look after ourselves enough. The kids get sick and we dote on them and God help us if the husband goes down,…. no not like THAT! I’m talking about ‘manflu’!

We don’t take enough time out for ourselves. Time to be us, me, Molley. Not mum, not wifey, chief cook and bottle washer, or laundry queen and not alpha dog. Yes I’m a damn alpha dog, whatever, Sir Lickalot needs someone to guide him. He thinks I can do it.

We get lost in the day to day grind of life. We’re all suffer from lack of sleep. Yeah alright let’s call it what it really is, pure exhaustion, especially with all this snowmaggeddon and polar vortex shit keeping the brats home from school more days than we’d care for. Well, I’m calling bullshit.

And so I’m declaring February, Selfish  MUM month. I have no known authority to do such a thing but at this point I don’t even care. Here’s my plan. I’ve listed 10 things we probably never do but should and by damn it we’re gonna, at least once each!

Here they are in no particular order:

1. Get a massage

2. Have a spa mani pedi

3. Have a night off cooking at least once a week, whether you go out or order in, doesn’t matter.

4. Go out with friends, for cocktails or a movie, leave the kids with dad, they’re his too 😉

5. Have day time coffee out with girls, on a weekend if you have small kids not at school. Again Dad can be on duty.

6. Take bubble baths

7. Take naps, sleep in

8. Go to the mall, shopping or just window shopping, without any kids.

9. Let Dad be in charge for an entire weekend. Don’t judge or interfere,  just let him do it. The kids will Love it 😉 And he’ll get a new appreciation of what you do.

10. Chalk up some time on the sheets, where YOU’RE needs come first 😉

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let me know how many you get done.. And whether you feel a little more refreshed. I know I’m going to do the whole damn list, maybe even twice 😉 !
Then we’ll be refreshed enough to put the gloves back on to start all over again. Maybe….
  1. It is easy to be guilty of thinking about ourselves only.. but I sure agree that we, mothers, also need time for ourselves once in a while. I try to have a me-time as much as I can get.. Hope you can get yours too..
    Great weekend to you!
